Congratulations to Yu-Dian, a Green Stone Coffee Academy student, for finishing 9th overall in the 2025 TRN Coffee Roasting Competition Final.
Yu-Dian began his roasting journey at Green Stone Coffee Academy in 2024, completing professional coffee roasting certification training and continuing to build his skills through regular hands-on practice.
Over the following year, he challenged himself by participating consistently in the TRN roasting competitions.
With continued practice and competition experience, his performance steadily improved. He began regularly finishing within the top seven in monthly competitions and even achieved a first-place result during the season.
These results eventually earned him a place in the 2025 Grand Final.
Reaching the final presented another challenge.
Competition roasting requires more than following a familiar roast profile. Roasters need to quickly understand the coffee, adapt to the competition equipment, make decisions under time pressure, and evaluate how each adjustment may influence the final flavor.
Yu-Dian demonstrated his ability to quickly adapt to the competition roaster and ultimately finished 9th overall in the Grand Final, competing alongside many experienced coffee roasters.
For a student who had begun formal roasting training only the previous year, the result represented an important milestone in his development.
Looking back on the journey, Yu-Dian described 2025 as one of the most rewarding years since he began learning coffee.
