In 2024, Hui-Ling “Kelly” Wang, founder and instructor of Green Stone Coffee Academy, was invited by Slippery Rock University of Pennsylvania, USA, to deliver an international online guest lecture for students in its hospitality program.
The lecture focused on ESG (Environmental, Social and Governance) practices in the coffee industry, introducing university students to real-world business cases and sustainability practices related to coffee.
Drawing on examples from Taiwan, Japan, and other Asian markets, Kelly discussed how coffee businesses are responding to sustainability challenges and how ESG concepts can be connected to actual business operations.
The lecture provided students with an opportunity to look beyond coffee as a beverage and explore its broader relationship with business management, sustainability, social responsibility, and the hospitality industry.
Through practical cases, students were introduced to different approaches adopted by coffee businesses and organizations, helping them understand how sustainability concepts can be applied in real-world business environments.
The lecture also created an opportunity for international academic exchange between Taiwan and the United States, connecting coffee industry practice with hospitality education.
Following the lecture, faculty members and students expressed positive feedback on the session and its practical industry perspectives.
